Remington 580 Serial Numbers

A serial number is printed on the receiver of each Remington rifle or shotgun, provided it's a newer model. Serial numbers were not a requirement until 1968, so older firearms may not have serial numbers. You can still use the two-letter code on the barrel of the rifle or shotgun to look up the firearm's age. This code is located on the left side of the barrel, just in front of the receiver.

The next one or two letters represent the year of manufacture, which you can look up using Remington Serial Number Lookup. For shotguns with removable barrels, the code on the barrel represents the date of manufacture of the barrel, which may not match the date of manufacture of the receiver.
